Medal US Golden Gate Exposition 1939
These are neat medals. They were issued as part of the World Fair exposition held in San Francisco to celebrate the city’s two newly built bridges, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Oakland Bay Bridge. Many different types of medals were produced and sold as souvenirs.
The one in our primary picture is especially nice. It comes from CoinKeeper562's blog GreentoGold, which is full of information (sometimes juicy information) about coins and coin collecting. CoinQuest thanks CoinKeeper for use of his image.
As far as we know, all these medals were issued in brass or some similar metal, never in precious silver or gold. Also, many thousands of medals were sold, so there is still an ample supply to satisfy collector interest today. Very rough, typical prices run like this:
