Netherlands 10 Gulden 1818 to 1933

The Netherlands minted 10 gulden gold coins with 0.1947 troy ounces of the precious metal between 1818 and 1933, covering the reign of four monarchs:

William (Wilhelm, Willem) I: 1815 to 1840
William II: 1840 to 1849
William III: 1849 to 1890
Wilhelmina I: 1890 to 1948

Each of these coins has the reigning king or queen on the front and the lion-shield-crown design on the back. The 10G gives the denomination. Other 20G coins were also minted, as well as silver and nickel coins with similar patterns. This page applies only to 10G gold coins.

For value, start with the basic gold value as a base. These coins can never be worth less than that. To find the base value (BV), multiply the current price of gold by 0.1947, the number of troy ounces of gold in the coin. For instance, if gold is trading at $1500 US dollars per troy ounce (look it up, it changes every day, click to kitco.com), the base value is 0.1947 x 1500 = $292 US dollars.

Many of these coins are worth more than base value due to collector demand. Below is a summary of approximate catalog values for these coins. The collector premium is shown added into the base value to obtain the catalog value. In general, the older they are, and the better the condition, the more value.
