US Booker T Washington Commemorative Half Dollar 1946 to 1951
The fact that your coin is worn, sir or madam, will render it of low value. Many of these nice commemorative coins have been preserved in high uncirculated grades. The one in the picture is worth about $50 US dollars because it is in such good shape. Your coin is worth considerably less, probably $10 or so.
BTW commemoratives were issued from 1946 to 1951. Coins from 1946 and 1947 are worth a little less than the others because more of them were minted.
These coins were minted in silver, and they contain 0.3617 troy ounces of the precious metal. With today's silver prices at about $24 US dollars per troy ounce, that means that each coin is worth $8.70 due to the silver it contains.
Any coin with decent eye appeal is probably worth more, as outlined in the approximate catalog values given below.
worn: $9 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $14
well preserved: $15
almost uncirculated: $17
barely uncirculated: $20
Catalog values increase very quickly as condition improves in the 'uncirculated' grades - a coin in numismatic grade MS60 catalogs for about $20, while a coin in numismatic grade MS65 catalogs for over $40.
A 'perfect coin' could sell at an auction for thousands of dollars.
