Great Britain 4 Pence 1831 to 1862 | pence britain great 4 trident britannia shield queen throne coat woman man chair seat king four britsh britt brit english Look at the great coin in our picture. It is fully uncirculated. You can see the nice luster that the coin displays. Luster is a creaminess or frostiness that appears on an uncirculated coin.

These silver coins have King William (Gulielmus) IV until 1838 when they change to Queen Victoria. They have seated Britannia on the back. Britannia is the UK's symbol of integrity. Four pence is called a groat.

Catalog values for common dates in this series show the strong trend with condition:

worn: $5
average circulated: $12
well preserved: $35
fully uncirculated: $100

There are some better dates in this series as follows. The values after the dates are for average circulated coins.

1851: $80
1852: $100
1853: $100

Be careful that I have quoted 'catalog' values. This can be misleading. To clear up what 'catalog' means, look at our Important Terminology page (link at upper left).
