Netherlands 1/2, 1, and 2 1/2 Gulden 1892 to 1945
Netherlands 1/2, 1, and 2 1/2 Gulden 1892 to 1945

Queen Wilhelmina I ruled the Kingdom of the Netherlands as a young lady starting in 1890 and continued to 1948. This is such a long reign that several different portraits of the queen appear on the gulden of the period. The sample picture below is of the youngest Wilhelmina. There are three others. The 1/2, 1, and 2 1/2 gulden denominations are silver. The 10 gulden were minted in gold.

The denomination appears on the reverse: 1/2 G, 1 G, or 2 1/2 G (G = gulden) and the values vary accordingly.

Important: Some of these pieces are valuable, especially in high grades, and are therefore subject to counterfeiting. You can learn some things about counterfeit coins by scanning this CoinQuest link.
