France 20 and 50 Francs 1950 to 1954
In the old days, before 1950, French 20 and 50 franc coins were minted in gold. Nice! But now it's aluminum-bronze. The 20 and 50 franc coins look the same except, of course, for the big 20 or 50 on the back side.
These coins are generally worth face value, except as noted below. If you have an example in beautiful, fully uncirculated condition, a collector will probably pay a few US dollars to add it to his or her collection. Use a web site such as xe.com to compute currency exchanges.
There are a few *good dates* in these series. The catalog values below are for coins in well preserved condition:
1950 20 francs: $12 US dollars approximate catalog value
1950 50 francs: $400
1954 and 1958 50 francs: $70
Use our Important Terminology page (link at upper left) to convert these catalog values to actual buy and sell values.
