Canada Dollar Commemorative 1939
Canada started minting modern commemorative dollar coins in 1935. Of all the commemoratives minted, only four carry significant numismatic (coin collector) value over face value or silver melt value: the 1935, 1939 (this coin), 1949, and 1958.
The 1939 dollar is made of 0.600 troy ounces of silver. Multiply the current price of silver (see kitco.com) by 0.600 to get the silver melt value. In superb, bright, uncirculated condition this 1939 coin sells for about $10 US dollars more than silver melt. Less if circulated.
