Portugal 5, 10, and 20 Reis 1882 to 1886
Portugal 5, 10, and 20 Reis 1882 to 1886

Hello again, Bette -- You have an old 20 reis coin from Portugal which catalogs around $5 US dollars in average circulated condition. These were also made in 5 and 10 reis denominations. They look the same, only smaller and with the corresponding Roman numeral on the back.

In our picture, the front of the coin is average circulated. But the back has a little pitting and that will lower value.

Below you will find a short summary of what the coin catalogs say about these neat old coins.

5 (V) REIS
worn: $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $2
well preserved: $12
fully uncirculated: $40

10 (X) REIS
worn: $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $3
well preserved: $12
fully uncirculated: $40
10 reis dated 1886 are slightly more valuable: $6 in average circulated

20 (XX) REIS
worn: $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $3
well preserved: $10
fully uncirculated: $30
20 reis dated 1886 are slightly more valuable: $6 in average circulated

These are inflated values. Be sure to check our Important Terminology page (link at upper left) to understand catalog values.
