Requester description: 1899 It's a tarnished, most likely circulated coin with whom I assume is Queen Victoria on the front with the words, 'VICTORIA DEI GRA BRITT REGINA FID DEF IND IMP' bordering it's edges. She's wearing a crown beneath a head scarf, a necklace, and earrings. By the looks of her facial features, she appears to be in her sixties. There's a thin man sitting with his sheild in his left hand and a trident in the other on the back of the coin. He's also wearing a helmet and facing toward the east. The date 1899 is below him, bordering the bottom edge of the coin. The word 'ONE' is on the left side of the coin, and the word 'PENNY' is on the right side. I think the penny is either silver or nickel, but I'm not sure. It's very tarnished, and it has a coppery, old US penny color to it.

Hey, Chrissy. We generally don't receive kisses (X) here at CoinQuest. But I guess I should not complain! - CoinQuest (Paul)
my husband found this one penny on the ground outside his work many years ago then the other day he was cleaning his locker out and found it again so what I would love to know is what it is worth in English money of today thank you - sue
This page tells how much these coins are worth. See above. - CoinQuest (Paul)
I have one that someone (not me) drill a hole in it. 1900 one cent piece. Is it worth anything? - Hank
Damage to an old coin renders it almost valueless. You coin might be worth $1 US dollar, probably less. - CoinQuest (Paul)
I have a penny like this but on it, it has a ship with queen Victoria on the picture in not very bad but not very good conditions. - Victoria
The patterns vary slightly over the years, including adding a ship. It sounds like your coin is worth $3 US dollars or so. - CoinQuest (Paul)
I have one of each year of this coin, from 1896-1900 (unfortunately I'm missing 1895 and 1901) I would of thought the 1900 coin would be of slightly higher value, being the turn of the century coin?! Surprisingly not, or am I wrong? Does having a full set (1895-1901) of this mint be of better value than what I have now? - Merwida
Hi Merwida - The coin catalog shows minor variations in value with specific dates, although 1900 shows no great departure from normal. This web site reports only general, average values. Real coin catalogs contain (easily) 1000 times more information than CoinQuest. Having a complete set is fun and exciting for collectors, but dealers who buy coins are generally unimpressed. Coin buyers always consider each coin individually and almost never grant bonuses for complete sets. - CoinQuest (Paul)
Hello what does it mean by circulated and uncirculated. - Jacqui
Jacqui - The term 'uncirculated' may have 3 different meanings:
1) it can refer to the particular manufacturing process
2) it can be used as a grade when referring to a coin's degree of preservation and quality of the strike.
3)'uncirculated' can point to the fact that a coin has not been used in everyday commerce.
Usually circulated means a coin used in everyday commerce. - CoinQuest (Andrei)
