Germany 1, 2, 5, and 10 Pfennig 1948 to Euro
In turmoil at the end of World War II, the German States (Deutscher Lander) together minted some denominations of coinage until things settled down and the Federal Republic (Bundes Republik) took over. As such, some of the early issues are unique and carry some collector value, but the later issues, 1950 and after, are worth face value. Here are some catalog values that apply to 1, 2, 5, and 10 pfennig coins:
BUNDES REPUBLIK (after 1949): worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value average circulated: less than $1 well preserved: less than $1 fully uncirculated: $4 1 PFENNIG DEUTSCHER LANDER (1948 and 1949)
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value average circulated: less than $1 well preserved: $5 fully uncirculated: $25 5 PFENNIG DEUTSCHER LANDER (1949) worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value average circulated: $1 well preserved: $8 fully uncirculated: $35 10 PFENNIG DEUTSCHER LANDER (1949) worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value average circulated: $1 well preserved: $8 fully uncirculated: $30 All BUNDES REPUBLIK 1, 2, 5, and 10 pfennig coins dated 1950 and after are worth face value, or a few US dollars if fully uncirculated. Any value over face is due to collector demand. Some collectors want to add fully uncirculated specimens to their collections, but they will not pay very much to do so.
