US Eisenhower Ike Dollar 1971 to 1978
These are big, bold, beautiful coins. But they are not worth very much. All Ike dollars that you find in circulation are worth face value, i.e., they are worth one US dollar. Only when they are fully uncirculated and protected in a holder of some kind does the value go up slightly. Some of the dates contain silver, but most do not. A proof coin like the one in the picture can carry a small premium value. Proof coins are special coins made only for collectors; they do not enter circulation.
The coin in the picture is the bicentennial version, with the Liberty bell and the moon on the reverse. Other dates have an eagle making a soft landing on the moon, as shown in our secondary picture.
Here is a list of Ike dollars that are worth more than $5 US dollars. They must be in the packaging specified:
UNCIRCULATED IKE DOLLARS IN BLUE GOVERNMENT HOLDERS
PROOF IKE DOLLARS IN BROWN GOVERNMENT HOLDERS
BICENTENNIAL SILVER IKE DOLLARS IN GOVERNMENT OR PRIVATE HOLDERS
1976S: $15 fully uncirculated
1976S: $15 proof
