Hi Seth, The place to start is A Guidebook of United States Coins by R. S. Yeoman. This book gives you all the information you need to get started. They come out every year. Just about every library has a copy. You can get them in all bookstores and at Amazon. Affectionately known as the Red Book, you will never go wrong with this $15 investment. Don't spend a lot of money until you have digested the material in the Red Book. If you enjoy reading the Red Book, you'll love coin collecting. If the Red Book is boring for you, move to something else. [ID=7811 Wed, 08-Sep-2010 01:44:46 GMT]

Fantastic site...just found out about my coin...an Austrian coin with Empress Zita on it! WOW! I had a friend in high school in the 70s, she never knew from where her name descended...wish I still knew her; I'd share this amazing fact with her now! Thanks for your hard work maintaining this website...it is very much appreciated!
===
Thanks, Pam. You can see the coin Pam is referring to at this link. [ID=7397 Sun, 22-Aug-2010 20:12:09 GMT]

Great website! I've booked mark this page for my reference.
===
Thanks, Juni. Bowers and Merena has graciously released their copyright to CoinQuest on several occasions. My favorite is at this link. It's a side-by-side comparison of a genuine Japanese Trade Dollar with a fake one. We appreciate you guys! [ID=7356 Fri, 20-Aug-2010 23:11:34 GMT]

This is a great site. Thank you for identifying my Austrian Kreutzer.

You are welcomed, DD. That coin was more difficult to find than I thought. The catalogs show the coin, but trying to find a picture was a bear. This probably means the coin is more scarce than the catalogs indicate. [ID=6871 Thu, 12-Aug-2010 13:29:40 GMT]

It is very rare that I find a site that makes me want to pause for a moment and sing the praises of how great the site is. I would say it happens maybe once, every five years or so. I include this personal detail of my decidedly stingy nature where matters of praise are concerned, only so that these words are all the more sweeter.
===
Thanks, John. We are honored. I've been involved with rare coins as a hobby for 50 years. Now, with Internet technology, I am able to enjoy coins all the more, offer a little help to people who are interested, and perhaps convince a few side-liners to jump in and start an endeavor in the King of Hobbies. I appreciate your comments. -- Paul Richards, CoinQuest [ID=6360 Fri, 16-Jul-2010 23:00:28 GMT]

I was upset when they didn't have my coin, but maybe it's just rare, hopefully! This site has been the most helpful, and I love the fact that they search just for the coin you have, with the questionnaire details! (: I'm only 14, but I am trying to find the value of my mom's coin collection, so far, nothing. But I'm getting somewhere thanks to this website, thank you coinquest(:

If we don't have something about your coin, request an appraisal. It appears under the sidebar, but is suspended when there's more than 3. Thanks for your input, much appreciated. [ID=6343 Thu, 15-Jul-2010 00:29:07 GMT]

Yo, HotStuff -- I am glad you like our web site, but I am more glad that you are starting out in coin collecting. It is a wonderful hobby. I started when I was your age, and now I am older -- a lot older! The hobby stuck with me from age 12 to age 62. Pretty neat, huh? BTW, you spell it 'appreciate' and I appreciate you! I have been collecting coins all my life, but up until now,could not find a reliable site which was user friendly. I must say....The only site you need for ANY coins is CoinQuest.com. Thanks to all of you!!! Sincerely, Brandon J.
===
Whoa, Brandon. Thanks for your compliments! This site is really aimed at non-collectors because it only skims the surface. For instance, none of our appraisals consider proof coins or minting varieties, and our grades are very broad, e.g., worn, average circulated, etc. Nevertheless, thanks again. Perhaps you can try out our new Forums page. [ID=6308 Mon, 12-Jul-2010 00:29:14 GMT]
